Putlog head adaptor

The putlog head adaptors we supply feature a blade end for quick and easy conversion of 48.3mm diameter scaffold tubing into putlog transoms. The putlog adaptor, once attached to the end of a tube, creates a putlog transom, which is used on putlog scaffolds and is sometimes referred to as bricklayer’s or single scaffolding, which is a type of scaffold where the building’s wall supports the working platform and negates the need for inside standards (verticals).

Constructed from galvanised steel and weighing approximately 0.37kg, this component features a metal spade end that fits securely around a 48.3mm scaffold tube. It is secured with a hex nut that tightens around the tube. This product is also referred to as spade ends, putlog fixing, or scaffold tube to putlog converters.

Description

What is a putlog head adaptor?

Putlog tubes are utilised in scaffolding for projects such as new brickwork construction and phased site work, serving as the transoms upon which the boards sit. Once the putlog adaptor is secured to the end of a scaffolding tube, it is inserted directly into the masonry. This process effectively links and secures the wall to the horizontal ledger tubes, a technique commonly referred to as ‘tying into’ the building within the scaffolding industry.

The item weighs approximately 3.7kg.

They are made from high-grade galvanised steel.

The adaptor is designed for quick and easy installation, allowing for seamless integration with standard scaffold tubes. Its user-friendly design minimises setup time, enabling workers to focus on the task at hand. Simply slide the adaptor over the tube at one end and tighten it with a spanner. The tube is then converted into a putlog tube.

This fitting is ideal for use in various construction environments that feature brick and blockwork, including:

  • Building renovation and maintenance.
  • New construction projects.
  • Industrial and commercial scaffolding.
  • Temporary structures and platforms.

This scaffolding method originates from traditional masonry practices, where builders utilised holes in the wall of a structure to support horizontal timbers, often referred to as ‘put the logs.’ The putlog scaffold method negates the need for inside standards (legs), as the block or brickwork wall supports the inside of the scaffolding structure.

A potential disadvantage of the putlog scaffold method is the delay it can cause. Brickwork needs to achieve a certain level of strength before putlogs can be inserted, which can slow down the construction schedule. Furthermore, the holes created by the putlogs must be carefully filled and repaired after the scaffold is dismantled.
