New scaffolding boards

You can purchase new European whitewood timber scaffold boards from us in the following lengths: 1.5m (5ft), 1.8m (6ft), 2.4m (8ft), 3m (10ft) and 3.9m (13ft). They are from certified sustainable sources and are manufactured to BS:2482:2009 standards. Each board has a 1.2m support span, a standard width of 225mm and a thickness of 38mm. They will arrive with metal bands on either end, which can be easily removed. They have not been treated with any chemicals and are unsanded.

Please note our standard measurements may vary slightly if the board contains moisture because they are stored outside and exposed to the elements. This timber product is excellent for any DIY or garden projects. As well as creating working platforms, they can be made into many other things, including decking, raised beds, shelves, floorboards, fencing, and much more.

We provide an affordable delivery service across London and the surrounding counties and aim to have your boards to you within 2-4 working days.

Scaffolding planks are made for outdoor use on scaffolds; however, if you use them for fencing, furniture or decking, treating them with a stain is recommended to ensure they are thoroughly water-resistant.

The boards well sell are stored externally and are exposed to all weathers, so please be aware when ordering that your boards may arrive damp or even wet depending on recent weather so you may need to allow for drying time before use.

The boards should not be used if you notice wet rot, fungal decay, significant splits, or warping, and this can be common with scaffold boards if they are not stored correctly.

They have metal bands around the ends of each board to protect them from splitting or damage when used for scaffolding. If you are using the planks to make garden of furniture items, then the metal bands are easily removed using a hammer or flathead screwdriver.

When using scaffolding boards as a working platform, the minimum overhang from the last transom/support should be 50mm, with the maximum being 150mm.

The support span for visually or machine-graded timber scaffold boards is a maximum of 1.2 metres.

End splits are caused when the board is in repeated wet and dry weather conditions, and if the boards are not handled with care, this can cause them to split.

The boards we sell are not treated with any chemicals; however, for outdoor use, it is recommended to use a preservative for an increased life span.

Ideally, they should be stored under a covering and kept clear of the ground. If you are stacking more than 1 row, wooden spacers should be added between each row to allow all air to circulate; however, scaffolding boards are designed for outdoor use, so that they can be stored outside, but it would be best to treat them with a wood preservative if outdoors for long periods.

Our customers usually recommend Danish oil as it penetrates the wood’s surface better than wax or varnish.

If you want to sand the planks to clean away dirt, paint or cement, then it is advised to use a 60 to 80-grit paper. For a delicate rub down, a 120-grit paper is ideal.

They are perfect for creating a decked area in your garden. Scaffolding boards can easily be cut into any shape and size required, and if looked after and treated, they tend to last a little longer than traditional decking boards.

A large variety of oils, varnishes, and waxes can be used as a preservative on this wood. Boards that will be used outside would need a water or oil-based treatment. However, oils are typically preferred for indoor use because they penetrate the timber better whilst protecting it.

An electrical sander is preferred to remove rough edges and create a smooth finish; sandpaper can also be used.

Sandpaper is the most commonly used; however, steel wool is also great to use If there are awkward areas to sand where traditional sandpaper cannot reach.

No, they are not seasoned (kiln-dried) before use.

Scaffolding boards are softwood timber from European or Norway spruce sustainable trees native to northern, central and eastern Europe.

The scaffolding boards we sell are not fire retardant. However, we may be able to source some if required, so please ask one of our team members for more information.

Yes, you can use wood glue to secure them together. All you need to do is glue down the edges you wish to join, then put the boards in place and use clamps to hold them until completely dry.

A single board has a support span of 1.2m and can take on a maximum load of 34kg per square foot.
