Description
The builders trestles we have for sale have adjustable steel frames and are available in three different heights: size 1 (adjusts: 0.51m to 0.71m), size 2 (adjusts: 0.76m to 1.17m) and size 3 (adjusts: 1.07m to 1.68m).
Builders’ trestles are wide enough to hold 4x scaffold boards or 2x 450mm staging boards, creating a stable working platform for painting, bricklaying, plastering, rendering, repointing, window replacement, and other low-level tasks. Also known as bandstands, scaffold trestles, portable trestles or trestle platforms, these essential tools ensure safety and efficiency for builders and DIY enthusiasts.

These bandstands have a standard overall width of 970mm from end to end.
Bandstands have a standard width to fit exactly four timber scaffolding boards, which are 225mm.
Each trestle should be placed approximately 1.2m apart; then add, the timber scaffolding planks to create a basic working platform.
They are made from steel with a red powder-coated finish.
- Place the trestles on stable, level ground and adjust the height to your requirements.
- Ensure the span between each bandstand is a maximum of 1.2 metres to support the scaffolding boards fully.
- Install the foot stabilisers that sit on the side of each bandstand.
- Handrails for construction work should have a minimum height of 950 mm.
- Attach the handrail posts to both ends of the bandstand and install the ladder bracket.
- Add your scaffold boards along the width of the trestles, leaving a small gap between the planks and the posts.
- Set the boards down so they do not oversail by more than 150mm but no less than 50mm as per TG20 requirements.
- Hook on the handrail panels to each stand and then install the ladder to the bracket.
They can be used internally or externally for any type of work where safe access is required; this can include:

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly how many you may need for your project as this is very easy to get wrong; however, we can advise you that the builders’ trestles should be spaced at a maximum of 1.2 metres apart, which should give you an idea of the required quantities.
These systems do not need edge protection, and it is down to personal preference if you wish to have them installed. This is because trestles do not have a platform height of 2m or more. If your bandstands are close to holes or trenches, handrails and edge protection should be installed as the fall from height could exceed 2 metres.
- Ensure the ground is level and completely solid.
- Inspect the trestles for damage and wear and tear.
- Avoid using trestle systems during adverse weather, and don’t take risks.
Yes, you can use this product repeatedly, and they easily stack together and can be stored inside or outside.
Timber boards are generally the most popular to use. However, depending on your needs and preference, you can also use plastic, metal or staging boards.
You can fit 2 staging boards that are 450mm wide comfortably on builders’ trestles.
Yes, the bandstands we sell are all independently tested to BS1139 standards.
This is a working platform created by using builders’ bandstands and scaffold boards.
To look for any risks, including working safely at height and checking working conditions.

A bandstand system should be an option when ladders are no longer safe to access areas of a property you cannot reach from the ground.
No, the tallest working platform can only be used at a maximum height of 1.68 metres, which is a size 3 builders’ trestle.
Scaffolding is far more secure and heavy-duty than a trestle system, and it can also be erected far taller than 1.68 metres, which is the highest a trestle system will go. Also, trestles should never be used on scaffolding, as it is unsafe. However, builders’ trestles are great for low-level working at height.
No, you do not need to wear a harness when working from builders’ trestles because you would not exceed a height of 2 metres, where a harness is a requirement.
Health and safety are critical when working from equipment at any height. There are many hazards to be aware of. Below is a selection of potential dangers that could occur when working from bandstands:
- Falling from the platform.
- If not installed correctly or the surface is uneven, the bandstands could collapse or overturn.
- The trestle system could fail if the bandstands are overloaded with workers, materials and equipment.
It is a straightforward process: pull the top of the bandstands up or down to the desired height; then, on the legs of the frame, there are pins on either side; these are slid into pre-made holes to secure the bandstand in place.
